  • Das-Naglieri Cognitive Assessment System, Second Edition. Managed first phase (through tryout) of comprehensive ability testing system involving internal staff of 10 and 130 external examiners, efficiently kept project on schedule and within budget, despite razor-thin margin for error in schedule.

Represented Foundation at national meetings focusing on issues such as new directions in reading instruction, brain-based learning. Drafted charter school proposals. 1997-2000.

  • Ball Aptitude Battery (BAB). Supervised staff in national renorming of BAB and provided developmental editing for BAB technical manual. Trained set of probabilistic neural networks behind the computerized report for the BAB (now completed by over 60,000 students). Used self-organizing maps (Kahonen networks) to exploring the structure of abilities. Publications resulting from these efforts were first reports of artificial neural networks in the career/industrial assessment literature.
  • Created Ball Labs and led teams in several projects: Web-based assessment and training for K-12 students, leading to prototype assessment of reading skills and interests; Quality of K-12 teachers, leading to first report on characteristics of National Board certified teachers conducted by funding independent of NBPTS; Spanish version of the BAB, leading to adapted version in Mexican Spanish.
  • Organized teams that completed initial versions of two charter school proposals, one of which subsequently was approved by Illinois and became the Ball Springfield Charter School.

Senior Research Associate. Responsible for several projects related to study of aptitudes (particularly the Ball Aptitude Battery) in relation to career and educational assessment, and specific projects in educational psychology (phonics, charter school development). 1996.
