Theory of Work Adjustment A person-environment fit theory of career development that conceptualizes positive and negative vocational outcomes as the result of two major factors--satisfactoriness and satisfaction--themselves arising from degree of fit between a worker's needs and values and sources in the job for matching these (leading to satisfaction) and a worker's skills and skill requirements of the job (leading to satisfactoriness). The theory is process-oriented, with an ongoing interplay assumed between efforts of individuals and work environments to maximize their respective satisfaction and satisfactoriness. There are a number of additional constructs important to the theory. See Dawis (1996). About | Legal
