Computer-Assisted Career Guidance System (CACGS)

A computer-based system for matching individuals to occuaptions and in general to support career guidance and development activities. CACGSs have progressed through several generations of development, "evolving" from the earlier mainframe systems to those running on stand-alone personal computers (e.g., DISCOVER and SIGI), to Internet systems available through the World Wide Web. Most CACGSs have been modeled from the activities of expert counselors and effective school-based career centers. Some CACGSs are even making use of artificial intelligence technology to simulate the reasoning or perceptual processes of expert counselors or assessment specialists.
