Barnum Effect

Occurs when clients are provided assessment results that are superficial and overly general. Because such interpretations might apply to almost everyone, the uncritical client may believe almost anything that they are told about themselves. Examples include the typical horoscope readings found in newspapers. (See O'Dell, 1972).
