Assessment Center

A class of testing methods that allow candidates to demonstrate skills considered important for occupational success. Following an appraisal of a job's requirements, individual or group activities are designed that would assess the required skills. Activities used for this purpose often include role playing, in-basket techniques, competitions between teams, interviews, written reports and exams, and leaderless group tasks. Individual performances are then evaluated. Assessment centers are expensive to operate, given the large number of staff required to provide evaluations of individual performance. However, they also provide effective predictors of job success.
