Rated Abilities

Abilities measured through either self-ratings or ratings by others. Several vocational psychologists have argued that rated abilities offer advantages over tested abilities in that rated abilities may be obtained for specific abilities for which tests are not typically available. Research suggests that rated abilities generally have somewhat lower indicators of ability than objectively tested abilities in predicting job performance. Rated abilities typically correlate about .3 with objectively tested abilities. Rated abilities generally refer to current abilities, while inventories of self-efficacy generally refer to expectations of future capabilities or performance.
