Poems by Andrew D. Carson
C
I filter the world as it passes through
me,
Like a baleen I sift and glean the parts I need
And ignore the rest, swimming on,
Intoning the notes of my personal song.
My mind seeks order, and orders the world,
And orders myself, at home in the pattern
That forms the great grid of my universe,
And frames my part within it, my niche in the veldt.
I hold fast to my ways, embracing boundaries,
Enjoying their preservation,
Not eager to let go,
Lingering in their magic and power.
My clarity, custom and convention,
Details jigsaw-puzzled together,
I am become foundation,
Upon which lasting dreams are built.
