Assessment Services
from Andrew D. Carson, M.S., Ph.D.

All services are offered by Andrew D. Carson (see resume | full CV). Dr. Carson has a doctorate in counseling psychology from The University of Texas at Austin (1990), a master's degree in human development from The University of Texas at Dallas (1986), and an undergraduate degree in general studies from Harvard College (1982). He has more than 17 years experience providing vocational assessment and counseling, and is one of the leading experts in the use of assessment (including objective testing of skills and abilities) to help individuals make career plans and decisions.

Dr. Carson meets with clients in his Winfield office (see contact information at the bottom of this page for directions). Individual sessions are also offered by phone. His hourly rate for individual career counseling is $90 per hour.

Although many career problems do not require assessment services, for some common problems assessment may be useful. He offers two levels of assessment services--Exploration Basic and Plus--through his Winfield office:

Exploration Basic: Interests and Life History

Goal: Identify promising academic and career directions. May be especially helpful for individuals ages 15-19 as they begin to map out (or want to revise) their college and career plans.

Assessments: career decision-making status, interests, perceived barriers, and life history.

Feedback: Two individual meetings plus written report, which can suggest both possible college majors and occupations.

Cost: $180. Pay at first (introductory) meeting. Additional sessions are optional at $80 per hour.

Exploration Plus:
Motivation,
Temperament,
and Abilities

Goal: Many individuals, and especially adults in career transition, benefit from a more thorough exploration of personal characteristics.

Assessments: All of the above (Exploration Basic), plus the following:

  • Motivation
  • Style or temperament
  • Abilities measured through objective tests
  • Other assessments as needed

Feedback: Two individual meetings plus thorough written report.

Cost: $700. Pay at first (introductory) meeting. Additional sessions are optional at $90 per hour. If you opt for Exploration Plus after completion of Exploration Basic (within the previous year), the additional charge is $630, a savings of 10%.

Prices subject to change without notice.

Sharing of information with third parties. I work to maintain an ethical and legal practice. I can coordinate work with other mental health and counseling professionals. Clients should let me know during or before the first session if they are working with someone else, such as a therapist or career counselor. I will work the client within the limits imposed by the law to share information at the client's request to the desired parties. In the case of clients who are minors, parental involvement will be required as well.

Career assessment via consultation with career counselors. I can provide specialized career assessment services for career counselors who themselves do not provide such services. In such cases, the client (and, if needed, his or her parent or guardian) will provide the necessary permission allowing me to pass the requested information to the referring counselor. In such cases, I will charge the client directly for any career assessment services provided.
